4th of July

While driving in ferndale michigan today and I saw in a man’s front yard an American flag so big that it was the size of his house. He was kind and let me take some pictures of him and his work and then asked if I could help him take it down. Apparently he does a large art display on the 4th of July and has been doing it for the past 30 years.

As I helped take down the big flag with some truly interesting people a few quotes fromĀ  Harold and Maude ( a must see movie) came to mind.

“You know, at one time, I used to break into pet shops to liberate the canaries. But I decided that was an idea way before its time. Zoos are full, prisons are overflowing. oh my, how the world still dearly loves a cage.”

“A lot of people enjoy being dead. But they are not dead, really. They’re just backing away from life. Reach out. Take a chance. Get hurt even. But play as well as you can.”

I find strength in people that stand for who they are in their own way.
